There is a a common train of thought that most of the Church Fathers have discussed and believed in. It is the "one" day equals a "thousand" year theory.
It goes something like this and it is based on 2 Peter 3:8 and Psalm 90:4 . One of God's days is a passing of 1,000 of earth's years. Another way to look at it is like this, because God lives outside of time we would have to live 1,000 earth years to have gone through a 24 hour cycle in God's realm or one of His days. It's an amazing thought when you think about.
This may be why God can be so patient with us. What may seem like a long time to you and me is but seconds to the Lord.
So Hosea 6:1-2 says this; "Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight."
The thought here plays out like this. Israel was banished from the land in 70 A.D. just like Yeshua our Messiah said would happen in Matthew 24. The Jews were without a homeland for just about 2,000 years. In God's time reference this would have been only two heavenly days. The third day would then represent a glorious day, the millennium reign of Messiah on earth in Jerusalem. The third day is the millennium because the Jews, at that time, will be the light of the world during that era.
Let's not forget this scripture:
Zechariah 8:23; "Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."
So here we have the code the Holy Spirit has given to us so we would know what time it is on the prophetic time table. The second day of "Raising us up" took place in 1948. This is when the Jews were returned to their land of promise. In 1948 God raised up His people! We are now waiting for the third day to take place. But there are events that must proceed this wonderful day first.
Here's a small list of the obvious events we are waiting for:
- Rapture of believers, The Bride of Christ
- The revealing of The Antichrist
- The confirmation of the peace contract between Israel and the Arabs that the Antichrist confirms
- The Tribulation period
- The Mark of The Beast on every human on earth
- The 144,000 Jewish Evangelists to be sealed by God
- The judgement of God on the world
- The return of Yeshua our Messiah to the Mount of Olives
- The Millennium starts the Kingdom of God on earth through Christ!
Where not done yet. There's more good news.
Continuing on this theme of "one day" equals a "thousand years" we need to bring the focus on a few more prophetic ideas and concepts.
Let's take a look at Mark 9:1-8:
And He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power." Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"– because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid. And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.
In keeping with the theory stated above many believe that God created the earth in six of His days or six thousand years and on the seventh day or the seven thousandth year He rested. From Adam to Christ's birth, four thousand years passed and from Christ to now, we are just about at the two thousand year mark. This puts us at the end of the six thousand year period and we are just about ready to embark on the seventh day of rest or a rest for one thousand years, the millennium of Christ.
Lets stay with this theme for a bit more… I have a question to ask at this point. Why did the Lord wait until after the sixth day to take Peter, James and John to the mount to see Him in His glory? I believe the Lord was pointing us to something that will shed light on this theory we have been discussing. He knew that our generation would realize that we are at the end of the six thousand year period and He wanted us to know how close our generation would be to His return and how close we are to the final day (1,000 years) of rest is. The lord could have just as easily went to the mount on the 3rd or 4th day, why the 6th? There are no accidents with God and everything has a purpose. Yeshua also knew only the wise, those who were filled with the Holy Spirit would understand what He was saying through this magnificent event and the purposeful timing of it! Praise The Lord that He kept these things from the learned and has revealed it to us.
The Lord revealed His glory to Peter, James and John on the sixth day because He wanted them and all of us to know that His return in glory and magesty would occur at the end of the sixth day (6,000 years), the beginning of the seventh day or the final one-thousandth year of history! Amazing isn't it that not only does the Lord speak to us in Word, but also in demonstration and imagery through His Word.
Matthew 13:34-35:
All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world."
So there you have it the mystery of the one day equals a thousand years theory explained.
Until next time God willing…
Keep looking up because Messiah's return is at the door!
'But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman's hand.' Ezekiel 33:6
Peace and Love in Jesus The Messiah,

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. ~1Thessalonians 5:1-6
